/Mental Health News Articles/ - October 20, 2006 - Kenneth L. DeSeve is a full time practicing psychologist, who currently practices in Spokane, Washington. Dr. DeSeve earned his B.A. in psychology at Eastern Washington University, and then went on to earn his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Washington State University.
After earning his Ph.D., Dr. DeSeve served as a staff psychologist at the Spokane Community Mental Health Center in the chemical dependency unit. In that role, Dr. DeSeve was responsible for both group and individual therapy and also education and assessment of the patients. After two years in that role, he then went on to serve as the director of program services, again at the Spokane Community Mental Health Center. In that role, Dr. DeSeve performed a variety of tasks, including coordinating the acquisition and implementation of the computerized management information system, which entailed writing the proposal, selecting software, configuring hardware, and developing an MIS team to provide ongoing maintenance. Dr. DeSeve's other responsibilities included: chairing the multidisciplinary quality assurance committee, developing clinical records for all departments, establishing admission criteria and treatment protocols; coordinating research and evaluation activities for all Center programs; and provide necessary data for grant writing. He also participated in workshops for "End Users" of various mental health software applications, and evaluated and determined if purchase were appropriate of various mental health software applications. While serving as the director of program services which is a much more administrative role than therapy, Dr. DeSeve practiced part time as a Doctor of Psychology, enabling him to help people at the most basic level in local in-patient and out-patient chemical dependency programs.
After more than 10 years as the Director of Program Services at the Spokane Community Mental Health Center, Dr. DeSeve decided to turn his part time therapy practice into a full time practice.
