Dr. Van Der Velde has 45 years of experience in the healthcare industry and is now retired. His expertise is in treating psychiatric patients, teaching and writing. He has performed many medical practices for no cost and concerned only for the wellness of his patients. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Van Der Velde was an associate professor for Yale University, a clinical professor for the University of Connecticut, a Director of Education in Teaching for Norwich Hospital and a Director of Research for the Abraham Ribicoff Research Center. He is considered to be an expert in the research of manic depression.
In addition to industry-related training, Dr. Van Der Velde received his MD from the University of Amsterdam in 1957. He is the recipient of the Golden Acorn Award and the Golden Bell Award. Dr. Van Der Velde is a Life Fellow and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and the author of "The Mind: Its Nature and Origin" (2004).
