New York Autism Community Comes Together for "An Evening of Inspiration!"
CARD, Inc. hosts New York event for parents, practitioners, and lawmakers

NEWYORK, NY, September 24, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Center for Autism and Related Disorders to host "An Evening of Inspiration!" for New York parents of children with autism, practitioners, community leaders, and local and state lawmakers.

The event takes place on Thursday, October 02, 2008, 7pm at the 92 Y Tribeca, located at 200 Hudson Street. Special guests include: Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh, one of the nation's leading autism researchers and psychologists. Also on the long lists of guests: Nick and Janna - two teens who recovered from autism several years ago, and who are now helping parents and autistic children understand that even though there are 1 in 150 children with autism - recovery is possible. Nick and Janna are featured in the newly released film, Recovered: Journeys Through the Autism Spectrum and Back, a film by Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh and Michele Jaquis.

"Recovered" will be screened during "An Evening of Inspiration!" It takes viewers inside the lives of four families who were told to institutionalize their autistic children years ago. The documentary chronicles the children's (Nick, Janna, Brett, and Ruffin) personal journeys - starting with their diagnosis, their ABA therapy, and ending in their complete recovery of autism.

"Many people don't believe it is possible to recover from Autism. Our intention in providing proof of Recovery and in identifying a course of action toward that goal is only to bring hope and determination to those families who feel it is in the best interest of their child to learn new skills in order to better access the rewards of life." Says Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh.
