Gene A. Brodland, LCSW Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who
Gene A. Brodland offers his psychotherapy services to serve the community
SPRINGFIELD, IL, April 22, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gene A. Brodland, Psychotherapist at Bohlen & Associates, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of psychotherapy.
With 46 years of experience in his field, Gene A. Brodland specializes in marriage therapy, individual psychotherapy and addiction treatment. On a daily basis, he is responsible for working with various anxiety conditions and treating and diagnosing eight to nine patients per day. Mr. Brodland has developed his own theories about anxiety and how it affects those who suffer from it. For eight years, he has been working with Central Illinois Stress Debriefing Team to help officers deal with occupational stress. Since 1987, he has also been working with AIDS patients. He is involved with the statewide John Howard Association to inspect youth prisons and evaluate inmate care and is currently working with Fifth Street Renaissance on opening a homeless shelter for veterans in Springfield.
One of three founders of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Psychiatry Department, Mr. Brodland was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry for 17 years and is now a retired Associate Professor Emeritus. His proudest career accomplishment is having gained recognition within the medical community with a degree that is not medical based and winning the respect of psychiatrists and physicians throughout the city and medical school. He attributes his success to his mentor Helen Harris Perlman, professor at the University of Chicago, who taught him to begin where the patient is and then work on where the patient wants to go.
Mr. Brodland received his Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa in 1963 and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists. He supports the Fifth Street Renaissance and serves on the board of directors of the Springfield AIDS Resource Association. In his spare time, he sings for the Choral Society, a Barber Shop chorus, his church choir and the Jacksonville Symphony Choral.
