Paula J. Ferrone is the founder of the Food for Thought Group at Shands Hospital

GAINESVILLE, FL, September 2, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Paula J. Ferrone, Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Shands HealthCare, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of mental healthcare.

With six years of experience in her field, Mrs. Ferrone specializes in the treatment of eating disorders. In her position at Shands HealthCare, she is responsible for providing substance abuse therapy, conducting individual therapy sessions with patients, family sessions and sessions with inpatient groups and high-functioning patients, and working with people with eating disorders. Mrs. Ferrone is involved with a 12-step recovery program for food addicts. She will be featured in an article about her work on eating disorders in the May or June issue of her local newspaper. In 2007, she initiated and founded the Food for Thought Group at the Shands HealthCare. Previously, Mrs. Ferrone taught elementary school for 10 years and did a great deal of counseling work as a teacher. She found her niche in helping people and was always interested in the field of psychology.

Mrs. Ferrone completed her residency at the University Hospital in Tamarac, Florida and received her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Studies from Nova Southeastern University in 2005. She is also a certified elementary school teacher and a member of the American Counseling Association. In 2009, she was honored with the Star Award for her creation of Food for Thought by Shands HealthCare and was named Employee of the Quarter in 2008. Mrs. Ferrone hopes to obtain her Ph.D. and become a specialist in treating eating disorders.
