LOS ANGELES, CA, April 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Integrative Psychiatrist Richard P. Brown Teaches Breath~Body~Mind Stress-Reduction Techniques to Therapists at New York Open Center, New York City, May 7, 2010
New York, NY - Richard P. Brown, MD, a psychopharmacologist who integrates CAM (Complimentary and Alternative Medicine) into his treatments, will present an evening workshop on Friday, May 7, 2010, from 7 to 10 pm, at The New York Open Center, 22 E. 30th Street, New York, NY, 10016, entitled "Breathwork and Meditation for Therapists and Healthcare Professionals: Integrate Stress-Reduction Techniques into Your Practice," for psychotherapists looking to compliment their practices with mind-body techniques rooted in yoga, Qigong, and meditation.
Coherent Breathing and Open Focus Meditation are two highly effective self-regulation techniques that help relieve anxiety, improve focus and increase one's feeling of well-being. Coherent Breathing—which involves rhythmic breathing that, with practice, can be done during daily activities—enhances brain, heart and lung function and stimulates the nervous system's relaxation response. Open Focus meditation complements the practice of Coherent Breathing.
Through the experience of repeated rounds of breathwork and meditation, gentle movement, and small group interaction, participating therapists will discover the benefits of these mind-body practices and learn to integrate this knowledge into their clinical practices and into their own lives.
The New York Open Center, considered "the largest urban holistic learning center in the U.S.," offers a broad range of body/mind/spirit studies that include yoga, reflexology, and distance healing. The Center also offers on-line classes. Tuition for the Friday evening workshop is $40 for members, $45 for non-members. The workshop is 10WP22M approved for CEU's. More information can be found at opencenter.org on the Internet, or by calling (212)219-2527.
