It's the Summer of C.A.L.M
Merseyside charity C.A.L.M. celebrates 10 years of helping young men with a summer of music and a rock and roll raffle.
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND, May 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charity declares "Summer of CALM"
As the warm weather seems to be finally arriving on Merseyside, the Campaign Against Living Miserably has decided to declare a "Summer of CALM" as they continue to celebrate their 10th anniversary this year.
Having started with Liverpool Sound City Music Festival, the campaign is gearing up for a whole series of events across the region, promoting its work and its freephone helpline to local young men.
The team will be at Sunday's Liverpool's Community Sports Festival and then Crosby Music Festival, Liverpool's Hub Festival and Wirral's Sunset Festival over the bank holiday weekend before moving on to The Metquarter's World Cup Weekend, Sefton Park's Africa Oye festival, The Brouhaha International Mela and the St Helens Festival.
"CALM's message is as vital today as it was when first launched 10 years ago," says Merseyside CALMzone co-ordinator Simon Howes. "With so many lads dealing with difficult life situations right now, it's really important that we keep promoting everything CALM offers across the area."
Over the past 10 years the Merseyside CALMzone has managed to team up with massive events like Creamfields & Liverpool Music Week and promoted in skate parks, student unions, tea shops, rugby & football grounds and nightclubs. Over this period, official stats have shown a 39% decrease in the suicide rate amongst young men on Merseyside.
The charity is also holding a Rock 'n' Roll raffle over the period to raise funds for its helpline. Prizes include signed albums by artists such as Jamie Cullum, Paloma Faith, Jesca Hoop and the Bluetones' Mark Morriss as well as a print from the legendary Hip-Hop photographer Ernie Paniccioli. Tickets can be bought via the campaigns Facebook page: www.facebook.com/theCALMzone.
Ends.

A little about CALM...
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (C.A.L.M) was launched on Merseyside in March 2000 and is aimed at men aged between 15 and 35.
CALM offers young men a website, with information about a range of issues including relationships, depression and debt.
CALM also offers information and advice via a phone line where you can talk confidentially and anonymously to an adviser.
Suicide accounts for the deaths of more young men in England & Wales, aged 15-35, than any other single cause over the last 4 years. More men have died from their own hands in the last 5 years than have died in road accidents, drugs or AIDS. CALM aims to change that.
