Robert Cancro Honored by Cambridge Who's Who
Robert Cancro celebrates 34 years as the Lucius N. Littauer professor of the NYU Langone Medical Center

NEW YORK CITY, NY, October 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert Cancro, Lucius N. Littauer Professor of the NYU Langone Medical Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in the treatment of psychosis.

With 34 years of experience as the Lucius N. Littauer professor of the NYU Langone Medical Center, Robert Cancro is responsible for teaching residents, developing research programs for traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder, maintaining a clinical practice, meeting with patients, and lecturing to practicing psychiatrists. Dr. Cancro served as the chairman of the psychiatry department for 29 years, one of the longest tenures in the country's history. While pursuing a Doctor of Medical Science, he completed research in schizophrenia. Today, his research interests lie in biologic classification and psychiatric disease. He has been published over 100 times, and he has been involved with the International Committee Against Mental Illness for 25 years. He works to identify physiological markers for patients predisposed to mental illness. He became involved in his profession through his interest in psychiatry, especially psychoses and schizophrenia.

Dr. Cancro received a Doctor of Medical Sciences and an MD at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, having completed a residency in psychiatry and a medical internship at Kings County Hospital Center. In addition to his formal education, he earned a board certification in psychiatry in 1962. He is a fellow of The American College of Psychiatrists, a fellow and former president of the American Association for Social Psychiatry, a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the International Committee Against Mental Illness.
