Laurel Estes Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Psychiatric Nursing
Ms. Estes volunteers at the Patton State Hospital for the Criminally Insane

SAN BERNARDINO, CA, December 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laurel Estes has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in psychiatric nursing.

Ms. Estes, who currently volunteers at Patton State Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Highland, Calif., attributes her success in the health care field to the joy she receives from helping the mentally ill. She previously worked at the University of Iowa for six years as a staff psych registered nurse, for two pediatricians in Portland, Ore. for eight months, and at a rehabilitative hospital for four months. She also volunteered at St. Bernadine's Medical Center in San Bernardino, Calif. for 13 years, 12 in the recovery room and one year in their locked psychiatric ward. She hopes to obtain another psychiatric staff registered nurse position.

In 1969, Ms. Estes received a diploma in nursing from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. She also obtained credits towards a BSN at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, Ltd.

Ms. Estes enjoys gardening, cooking and canning her own produce. She has four sourdough starters in her refrigerator - the oldest originated in Alaska and is 127 years old. She also loves animals, especially long-hair cats, has been sewing all kinds of clothing since she was 12 years old, and creates miniature doll house clothes as a hobby.
