Sheree M. Manlove, M.Ed., Honored for Excellence in Counseling

WILMINGTON, DE, August 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sheree M. Manlove, M.Ed., Owner of Positive Directions, Member of Positive Directions II, LLC, and Executive Director of Helping Hands Development Center, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in counseling.

For 16 years, Ms. Manlove has shined as a counselor and professional mentor. She currently offers contracted school-based counseling and intervention services and leads a team of experts to assist with the guidance of at-risk students who have been involved in altercations or who have encountered scholastic issues. She hires, trains and oversees those placed in the schools, evaluates staff, and conducts behavioral intervention programs that help positively shape the futures of students. As the owner of Positive Directions, Ms. Manlove ensures that the counseling and intervention services administered by elementary guidance counselors and student support workers such as time-out workers, in-school suspension workers, hall monitors, behavior specialists, and school climate interventionists are thoroughly and efficiently being dispensed. As executive director of Helping Hands Development Center, Inc., Ms. Manlove facilitates the development of youth and family social service programs and training initiatives.

Ms. Manlove formed the Helping Hands Development Center to provide referral services, after-school programs, parenting groups, financial literacy classes, social skills classes for children, chess lessons, job search assistance and counseling services. Her responsibilities there include offering classes in financial literacy and conducting activities for youngsters and families. She is also responsible for event planning and business development. The organization's first honors banquet, held in March 2011, featured a keynote speaker and was attended by more than 100 people who had registered in advance. Ms. Manlove assisted with the arrangement of a silent auction, awarding of door prizes, coordination of raffle drawings, and provision of food from a local culinary high school, which the students prepared and served themselves. Even though this was the first event at the center, participants raved; typical comments included, "It was as though this were your fifth or sixth event" and "Excellent job!"

Ms. Manlove attributes her success first and foremost to God, second, to a very supportive administrative team, and finally, to her family, who support the many endeavors in which she is involved. She initially became involved in her profession because the many events, both positive and negative, that impacted her own upbringing. Because of these experiences, she wanted to ensure that all children, if need be, had someone whom they could trust, confide in and speak with in difficult times. She acknowledges how challenging that can be, and recalls how her hectic schedule as a guidance counselor once prompted her daughter to point out that she spent an abundance of time with other children — time that she didn't spend with her daughter. Ms. Manlove immediately promised that she would be there for all her daughter's important events.

Ms. Manlove earned a Bachelor of Arts in social work from Delaware State University and a Master of Education in school counseling from Wilmington University. She is also a Certified School Counselor and a member of the American Counseling Association and the National Association of Professional Women.
